A GROUP of climbers avoided serious injury after the Irish Coast Guard helicopter was called to their aid yesterday evening.
The Waterford-based Sikorsky helicopter raced to Hungry Hill outside Castletownbere in west Cork after a report that some hillwalkers had got into difficulty yesterday afternoon.
It is understood the walkers climbed Hungry Hill in early-morning sunshine, but their descent was hampered by rain and fog.
However, they were successfully assisted down from the hill, which is notoriously steep in parts with deep gullies.
The helicopter was helping the hillwalkers when it was diverted to assist with the tragic boat fire several kilometres away off Roancarraig Lighthouse.
