The Make-a Wish charity, which grants the wishes of kids with life-threatening illnesses, has a waiting list of 219.

The brave youngsters have simple ambitions that are very precious to them - one boy wants to meet the Munster rugby team, another would love to be a naval officer for a day and another girl just wants to have a birthday party.

Make-A-Wish is holding its fundraising 'Wish Band Day' on Thursday next.

Volunteers all across the country will take to the streets and shopping centres to sell wrist bands (€2 each). It is struggling to grant all the wishes and is appealing for the public's support and for volunteers to sell wrist bands in the Dublin area. To volunteer email mark@makeawish.ie or phone (01) 2052012.
