Jerry Beades is a well-known businessman and developer in Dublin city.
He is the managing director of Jerry Beades Concrete Ltd, based in Fairview on the northside of the city. He is a long-time Fianna Fail party campaigner in Dublin Central, the constituency of Bertie Ahern, and is an associate of the former Taoiseach.
He is also involved with the Construction Industry Federation and the Friends of Banking, a lobby group for badly treated bank customers.
Last year, he won almost €5m in a court case against ACC-Rabobank, which lost the deeds to a number of his properties six years previously. And he also won a High Court case against Dublin Corporation over a planning controversy.
He was first elected to the Fianna Fail national executive in 1995 and has won a series of elections to the 'Committee of 20' at party ard fheiseanna.
His campaign trump card at last year's Ard Fheis in the Citywest Hotel in Dublin was 30 lifesize cardboard cut-outs of US President Barack Obama, with the slogan "Obama says vote Jerry Beades".
He always claims his views reflect the opinions of the party's grassroots members. At a national executive meeting in Cork last year, Mr Beades clashed with Taoiseach Brian Cowen, accusing him of being disinterested and failing to listen.
