A VIETNAMESE woman is being questioned by gardai after the discovery of herbal cannabis with a street value of €250,000 in a growhouse in Carlow town.

The growhouse was uncovered in a converted top-floor of a rented house in Bullock Park estate.

Gardai found cannabis plants that were mostly fully grown and a sophisticated hydroponics system, in which the plants are grown using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil.

The woman, who is in her mid-40s, was being held for questioning last night at Carlow garda station under section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act, which allows gardai to detain her without charge for a maximum of seven days.
