MET Eireann has warned of gale-force winds and possible flooding in the coming days.
Winds are expected to reach 110kmh today leading to dangerous driving conditions for motorists.
Meanwhile, forecasters are also predicting that rainfall levels could be twice the average for this time of year leading to the risk of spot flooding.
Atlantic coastal counties and the north-west will be hit by strong winds today with gusts reaching 90 to 110kmh while the midlands and east of the country will experience severe or damaging gusts tonight.
The winds will ease somewhat overnight and it will turn cold with frost and fog forming.
However, the following days will continue with a mixture of strong winds and heavy rain at times.
