VIDEO: Keating completes first leg of 'monumental' swim
Singer Ronan Keating last night completed the first leg of a gruelling charity swim across the Irish Sea, saying he was delighted to get out of the frigid waters.
The 34-year-old was the first to enter the waters off Anglesey as part of a relay team of 10 people including five celebrities that hopes to cross a 90km stretch between Britain and Ireland in just 40 hours.
After completing his first hour of swimming, Keating tweeted that he was overwhelmed by the crowds of supporters cheering the swimmers off at the starting line in Holyhead.
The team, which includes former Atomic Kitten singer Jenny Frost, 'Strictly Come Dancing' star Pamela Stephenson and Olympic medal-winning swimmer Steve Parry, had been due to depart at lunchtime today but due to changing weather conditions it was decided they should leave last night.
Speaking about the task, Ronan Keating said: "It's a massive challenge, daunting and scary. If we succeed it will be monumental."
