Video: Feeling adventurous in the sunshine? 'Wakeboarding' comes to Dublin
WITH Ireland experiencing record-breaking summer heat, what better way to cool off than with Dublin’s newest craze - 'Wakeboarding'.
Wakeboarding is similar to water skiing, except a cable replaces the boat which drags the person along.
Cable wakeboarding is an increasingly popular sport in internationally, with are well over 400 parks around the world – and it has even been added as an official event to the 2020 Olympics.
The wakeboard system in Dublin has two towers, with the ride attached to the cable and able to continuously ride along between the two towers.
There is only one person on the cable meaning that if they fall, their operator pulls a handle enabling them to get back up again.
In traditional water skiing the rider would have to swim back to the harbor in order to try again.
Wakedock is Ireland’s first cable wakeboard park, located in the Dublin Docklands.
