Vehicles from El Salvador dodging M50 toll
CARS from as far away as El Salvador have being using Dublin's M50 without paying the toll. The National Roads Authority (NRA) yesterday revealed vehicles registered in 50 different countries, some over 5,000km from the capital, had been recorded not paying the €3 toll.
Vehicles from India (over 7,000km), Kuwait (5,000 km), Qatar (5,700km), El Salvador (8,200km), and Cuba (7,000km) have been recorded dodging the toll.
Data from international debt-collection agency European Parking Controls Ltd reveals that motorists from Northern Ireland are the biggest offenders, followed by drivers from the UK, Poland, France, Lithuania, Germany, Spain and Latvia.
Only where large bills are racked up does the NRA pursue them for payment.
"We obviously do a cost-benefit analysis to pursue because sometimes it doesn't make sense to go after them," said NRA spokesman Sean O'Neill.
