Vatican probe cleric to climb Croagh Patrick

A MEMBER of the Vatican probe into the Irish church plans to climb Croagh Patrick, Co Mayo's holy mountain, this weekend -- weather permitting.

Archbishop Terrence Prendergast of Ottawa, Canada, took part in penitential prayer services on Tuesday evening in Tuam Cathedral, Co Galway.

Archbishop Prendergast, who is investigating the archdiocese of Tuam on behalf of Pope Benedict, has invited young people to join with him in "a prayerful pilgrimage to Croagh Patrick" on Saturday.
