A Cabinet minister says he is "confused" by the Revenue Commissioners letter demanding payment on the property tax for next year.
Transport Minister Leo Varadkar objects to homeowners being asked to pay a taxa in 2013 than isn't due to be paid until 2014.
Mr Varadkar says he has been contacted by constituents about the date of payment of the property tax.
"I am a little bit confused as to what exactly the Revenue Commissioners are saying. I have had a lot of calls to my constituency office about the issue of the property tax and people are asking me why do they have to pay this year for a tax that doesn't fall due until next year and I can't give them a satisfactory explanation to that and I have been in contact with the Revenue Commissioners and they haven't given me a good answer either," he said.
"My basic view is a tax that falls due in 2014 should be paid in 2014," he added.
