Vandals target Civil War memorial
A MONUMENT to five Free State soldiers has been vandalised – just months after it was unveiled.
People in Knocknagoshel, Co Kerry believe the attack was politically motivated.
It was the first time the five men, who had been lured to their deaths by an IRA booby trap in Baranarig Wood on March 6, 1923, had been commemorated publicly.
The following day, nine Republican prisoners were killed in Ballyseedy.
Local man Ben Brosnan said there was huge disgust at the vandalism, which he believes was deliberate and targeted.
