A van driver was killed and another man injured in a crash in Co Meath.

The collision happened between the van and a lorry in the townland of Johnsbrook on the N52 on the Mullingar Road out of Kells at 10.30am. The area is known locally as Lynch's Cross.

Gardai said a 46-year-old man in the van was pronounced dead at scene. His remains have been removed to Navan Hospital, where a post mortem will be held.

“The male lorry driver, 66 years, was taken to Navan Hospital with non life threatening injuries,” added the spokeswoman.

The road had been closed for a forensic investigation and diversions are in place.
