US Dragons breathe fire into series
THE cut and thrust of the American boardroom is set to come to 'Dragons' Den' next year, writes Ken Sweeney.
With home-based entrepreneurs finding themselves stretched, producers announced they are to jet in two Irish venture capitalists, based in the US, to splash the cash.
Joining the line-up of Ramona Nicholas, Gavin Duffy and Sean O'Sullivan in the Den, will be Peter Casey, the founder and executive chairman of Claddagh Resources, a global recruitment company, and Barry O'Sullivan, senior vice president at Cisco Systems.
"Peter and Barry will bring a new dimension to 'Dragons' Den'. They have knowledge and networks within the US, the biggest market in the world," producer Larry Bass told the Irish Independent.
Mr Casey, from Derry, but now based in Atlanta, Georgia, had successfully established and invested in a number of business start-ups across three continents.
Meanwhile, a 'Dragons' Den' spokeswoman said Mr O'Sullivan, from Cork and now working in San Francisco, "could pick up the phone to the great and the good in Silicon Valley".
