University College Cork (UCC) confirmed it has acquired the 30,000 image archive of photographer John Minihan (70).

Minihan was raised in Athy, Co Kildare, but moved to London where he worked for the 'Evening Standard'.

He worked in London for 35 years and took some of the most iconic photographs of the era.

Minihan also became friendly with artists like William S Burroughs and Beckett.

The photographer, who is now based in west Cork, said he was "absolutely delighted" his archive is going to UCC.
