Two walkers airlifted to safety from Mayo mountain

A couple have been airlifted from a Mayo mountain after getting into difficulty at around 9pm last night.

The man and woman, who are both from Northern Ireland, became disorientated while walking on Mweelarea.

According to the Malin Coastguard, it was roughly an hour before they were found and airlifted by the helicopter to safety.

Achill Lifeboat, Westport Coastguard and Mayo Mountain Rescue all partook in the search.

Neither of the walkers suffered any injuries.
