Two unattended bags spark false alarm at Dublin Castle

Two bags left unattended in a popular tourist spot sparked a security alert at Dublin Castle on Tuesday afternoon.

The Office of Public Works (OPW) confirmed to An Garda Síochána were alerted and closed off the area following concern over two unattended bags.

Staff were evacuated from the Print Works building.

A spokesman for the OPW explained: “An incident occurred this afternoon where two tourists' backpacks were left unattended for a period of time in the Lower Yard of Dublin Castle.

“As a precaution, An Garda Síochána were notified and they closed off the Lower Yard and evacuated the staff from the Print Works building.

“Moments later two tourists returned to claim their bags.”

The OPW said the Lower Yard of the popular tourist attraction was closed for approximately 45 mins.

The spokesman also confirmed no other buildings within the Dublin Castle complex were evacuated during the incident.
