Two female teenagers have died following separate car crashes in Galway and Cork.
A 17-year-old girl died and six others were injured after two cars collided outside Portumna in Co Galway this morning.
The girl, another teenage girl and the female driver were travelling in a Nissan Micra.
The dead girl was the front-seat passenger. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other two occupants of the car were seriously injured and are being treated at University College Hospital Galway.
Two men and two children who were in the other car, a Mercedes-Benz, were also taken to hospital but their injuries are said not to be life-threatening.
They are believed to be a father, his son, and his son's two children, aged 2 and 5.
The accident happened at Thornfield on the road between Killimor and Portumna at around 11.25am.
The road is now closed for a Garda technical examination.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old woman died following a car crash in west Cork early this morning.
The teenager was killed after the jeep she was driving hit a ditch at Ahagilla on the Clonakilty to Dumanway road at around 5am.
