NRA opens first national cycle lane
THE first national road with a cycleway will be officially opened today.
The 3.8km N59 Derrylea scheme was built at a cost of €7m and is located just outside Clifden, Co Galway.
The National Roads Authority (NRA) said the scheme was "significant" because it was the first time a national route had a cyclepath.
It was intended to build cycle facilities on national routes to reduce car journeys and encourage tourism.
