A mass rescue operation has resulted in two seals being safely returned to the sea in Wicklow.

Two seals were spotted trapped in stake nets off the coast of Arklow, Co Wicklow.

Members of the public informed rescue services but due to the location and heavy swells in the sea it was too dangerous to launch the lifeboat or other craft.

Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) crews launched a rescue from the shore line including surfers putting themselves in danger to help drag the net to the shore and cut the seals free.
