Two men had a lucky escape after the van they were travelling in rolled over and exploded when a lawnmower in the back of the van caught fire on impact.

The driver and passenger were rushed to Tallaght Hospital where they were treated for non- life-threatening injuries, according to gardai.

The freak accident took place on the R751 road near the Beehive pub and Wicklow town this afternoon.

Fortunately the accident appeared worse than it actually was, a garda spokesman said.

“The driver lost control and the van flipped over and a lawnmower in the back caught fire,” he said.

“But it was a minor accident.”
