TWO pedestrians were killed in separate incidents on the road yesterday.
In Galway, a 65-year-old man was killed yesterday evening after he was struck by a car at Tully Church on the Galway to Carraroe road at around 6.20pm. He was crossing the road at the time.
His body was removed to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out today.
The driver, who was the sole occupant, was uninjured.
The road was closed to traffic to allow the Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out an examination.
Investigating gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Salthill Bothar Na Tra garda station on 091 514720, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
Separately, a 77-year-old man was killed last night after he was knocked down. The accident happened at around 7pm on the main street of Athboy, Co Meath. The man is understood to have been crossing the road at the time.
Meanwhile, a middle-aged woman has suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run incident. The 52-year-old was out walking in Cobh, Co Cork, yesterday morning when she was struck by a dark-coloured car.
