Two mystery Lotto winners share €5.3m

MYSTERY surrounds the identity of the weekend's lucky Lotto winners who split Saturday's €5.3m jackpot between them.

Each winner will take home a cool €2,688,982 when they cash in their tickets at the National Lottery headquarters in Dublin.

One ticket, a €4 quickpick, was bought on Friday night at Liddy's Costcutter supermarket at Newpark, Roslevan, on the outskirts of Ennis in Co Clare.

Owner Tom Liddy said it was his shop's first sale of a winning Lotto ticket, but that he didn't know who had scooped the prize.

"There's great excitement in the shop today because it's our first jackpot winner and it comes on the weekend of our seventh birthday," he said.

"We are hoping that it's someone local but we won't know until Tuesday when they contact Lotto HQ.

"I suppose it could easily be a member of staff, too, but everyone rostered to work today turned up and no one is smiling more than usual so it's not one of them," he joked.

The second ticket, a €6 quickpick, was sold on Saturday in Castlebar, Co Mayo, at the Londis Plus shop on Station Road.

"There's a lot of speculation (about the winner) but there's nothing definite," Edel Walsh from the shop said. "Everybody's very excited and a lot of customers coming in are congratulating us."

The winning numbers were 6, 9, 21, 31, 33 and 42. The bonus was 11.
