Two men hospitalised after being stabbed in car park

Gardai were last night investigating a serious assault in a hotel car park in which two men were stabbed.

It happened outside the City North Hotel in Gormanston, Co Meath. Both men, in their 20s, were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment for their injuries.

They are believed to be from Brazil and Poland.

A group of men had gathered in the hotel bar when a heated argument broke out shortly before 7.30pm. The barman called the gardai.

When gardai arrived up to six men were in the car park and paramedics treated the two injured men at the scene.

Bloodstained footprints were visible on the ground. One of the men had a stab wound to his back. The other had a broken leg and knife injuries to his head and shoulder.

The injured men were not staying at the hotel but had gone in for refreshments. The hotel is off the M1 Dublin-Belfast motorway.

Uniformed gardai began interviewing staff and customers who were on the premises. They also collected CCTV footage of the serious assault.

Gardai sealed off the scene for forensic examination.

The hotel manager declined to comment on the brawl.

Gardai said their inquiries were ongoing but no arrests had been made.
