Two men charged in connection with vandalism on train this morning

Two men have been charged in relation to the vandalism of a Dublin-bound commuter train this morning.

The men (aged 18 and 19 years) had been travelling on the Dublin-bound train from Longford which ground to a halt when the emergency handle was pulled.

The train was halted at around 7.05am today.

The two men were arrested by gardai on the train line at Blakestown, Co Kildare – outside Leixlip.

Train services between Clonsilla and Lexilip were suspended when the incident occurred. Gardai and the two men were on the track for some time.

The incident delayed passengers on the 05.40 train from Longford for more than 40 minutes.

They were brought to Leixlip garda station and were charged this morning at a special sitting of Kilcock court.

They have been remanded on bail.
