Tokyo police arrested two American men yesterday as part of an investigation into the suspicious death of Dublin City University exchange student Nicola Furlong, from Curracloe, Co Wexford, it was reported last night.

Agence France Presse reported that one of the men was with 21-year-old Nicola when she was found dead on Thursday in a Tokyo hotel.

Ms Furlong was studying in Takasaki city about 60 miles northwest of Tokyo.

She and another woman were in Tokyo on Wednesday night to see a concert by the rapper Nicki Minaj, when they were approached by the men.

The four of them later went to the hotel where the men were staying. Ms Furlong had been due to return to Ireland in the coming weeks.

Her family was informed of the tragedy on Thursday morning. A family member told the Irish Independent: "It's devastating, absolutely devastating. Poor Andrew (Ms Furlong's father) still doesn't want to believe it. He is in total disbelief. He would swap with her in the morning."
