Two gardai foil armed robbers who took cash from jewellers

TWO armed raiders threatened a jewellery shop worker and two gardai at gunpoint during an attempted robbery yesterday afternoon.

The men entered Celbridge Jewellers on Main Street in the Co Kildare town with a handgun and a crowbar, and demanded that the woman working there give them the contents of the till.

Two nearby gardai rushed to the scene and a chase ensued in a housing estate. With a bag of cash in hand, one of the raiders then threatened the gardai with the firearm. However, the men were overpowered by the gardai, who immediately took back the cash and arrested them. They are being held in Leixlip garda station.
