Two die as car veers off road

A TEENAGE girl and a man in his twenties became the first road accident victims of 2011 when their BMW veered off the road and crashed through a fence early yesterday.

The New Year's Day tragedy happened at 4.30am when the male driver and his female passenger were travelling south along the M1 Dublin-to-Belfast motorway.

They were named locally as 22-year-old Patrick Harper, from Naughton's Close in Dundalk, and 17-year-old Susan Larrigan, from Castle Ross, Castle Road, Dundalk.

The accident happened near Miltown in Louth when the car is thought to have gone out of control and crashed through a perimeter fence. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai, who have begun their investigations into the cause of the crash, have appealed for witnesses to contact them on 041-6871130.
