TWO brothers have been arrested in relation to the shooting of Garda Brian Hanrahan in New Orleans last week.

Garda Hanrahan was on holiday with his father in the city when the shooting took place.

New Orleans Police Department have tonight made two arrests in relation to the shooting.

Officers confirmed the arrest of  brothers Melvin and Keith Galle at an address in Laharpe Street.

Limerick-based garda Brian Hanrahan was shot in the lower back and leg while socialising in New Orleans on January 27.

A seriously injured Mr Hanrahan was saved when a woman came across him because her dog wouldn't stop barking, according to a police report.

The garda is reported to have told his attacker to 'go f*** yourself' when he demanded his wallet, to which his attacked replied, 'You think I'm playing?'.

Mr Hanrahan was then shot twice.

His wife Emma Holland, his mother Rose, and father Brian Snr, have all travelled to New Orleans to be with him as he recovers.

He remains in hospital following the attack.
