Police are investigating after obscene messages were sent from fake Facebook profiles.

Police in Coleraine, Derry are probing the incident of harassment and have arrested two suspects.

They were able to use technology to identify and locate them.

Sergeant Burns has warned internet users that posting derogatory comments from a fake profile does not mean you are anonymous and is an offence.

He said: "I would like to remind all Internet users that offences can be committed under the Communications Act 2003.

"If you use social media to post derogatory comments from a fake profile under the mistaken belief that you are anonymous, you are wrong. Police will find you and you will be liable for arrest."
