Two arrested after fleeing post office robbery in Westmeath with €5,000

TWO men have been arrested over a post office robbery in Co Westmeath.

Raiders armed with a knife and a sledgehammer threatened staff at the Tyrrellspass post office before fleeing with €5,000.



The suspects, who are both in their 20s, were arrested in a follow-up operation.



A Garda spokesman said cash and implements used in the robbery have also been recovered.



No one was injured during the incident, which happened at 9.30am.



The suspects are being detained at Mullingar Garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
