Tweets land TD in hot water
SINN Fein TD Jonathan O'Brien was briefly in hot water yesterday for putting Budget details on Twitter before Finance Minister Michael Noonan announced them.
The details of the speech are given to TDs and media organisations as soon as Mr Noonan starts speaking -- but there is a ban on reporting them until he refers to them in his speech.
But the Cork North Central TD got around this by sending four tweets while he was in the Dail chamber.
It emerged afterwards that Mr O'Brien had not broken any rules -- because the Oireachtas regulations do not cover "social media" like Twitter.
Sinn Fein, meanwhile, accused Fine Gael and Labour of breaking promise after promise and dashing the hopes of those who elected them.
Finance spokesman Pearse Doherty said history would judge the Government badly for making all the wrong decisions.
Mr Doherty said the Coalition could no longer blame Fianna Fail for their decisions.
He added that there was no vision for business.
