A YOUNG schoolboy will get an early Christmas gift when he takes to the stage alongside 'Late, Late Show' host Ryan Tubridy this weekend.

After a tongue-in-cheek email detailing how he suffered from 'Middle Child Syndrome', Cavan youngster Fergal Smith will co-present this Friday's 'Late, Late Toy Show' alongside the presenter.

Tubridy (pictured right) was impressed by Fergal's email, which went viral on the internet and he decided to grant the 11-year-old his wish.

Fergal, from Bailieborough, Co Cavan, was frustrated at not being able to get tickets for the festive show, so he decided to get in touch with Tubridy directly.

The sixth-class pupil attracted attention with his "cheeky" email, which asked for a stint presenting the show and jokingly asked if there would be a "little money in the gig" for him.

"He's just thrilled and out of his skin with excitement," Fergal's mother Mairead told the Irish Independent.

"He knew nothing about the phone call from Ryan on Friday night and they were talking to each other for a good few minutes so it was lovely." Fergal will be given a small time slot on this Friday's programme where he will join host Ryan on stage.

Despite his young age, Mairead says her son will be full of confidence ahead of his presenting slot.

"He won't be fazed, he is thrilled and I'm sure he will be practising in front of the mirror all week," she joked.

Mairead is hoping that herself, her husband Pearse and Fergal's brothers, Ciaran (14) and Pearse Og (4), will be able to attend Friday's show to cheer him on.

"The Toy Show is always a big thing in our house and is the stand-out event of the year," she said.
