TRIBUTES have poured in for a veterinary surgeon who died after sustaining fatal injuries while treating an injured horse.
Gerard Long (61), from Lawlesstown near Fethard in south Co Tipperary, was described as a "hugely popular vet" and a "great family man" by friends last night.
The father of three sustained the injuries near Moyglass, not far from Fethard, where he lived with his wife Gail and their daughters.
It is understood Mr Long suffered a kick to the head shortly after 10.30am yesterday. He was pronounced dead at South Tipperary General Hospital.
The couple have three adult daughters: Jessica, Sarah and youngest daughter Elaine – who is understood to be travelling back from the US.
The HSA has launched an investigation into the death.
