Travel chaos as Irish Rail experiences serious delays out of capital
There are serious delays on Irish Rail services out of Heuston Station due to a technical fault.
A spokesperson for Irish Rail said to expect delays of up to two hours on all outbound trains from Dublin Heuston.
The spokesperson said that trains have began moving again, but the elays are still expected.
Passengers took to social media to vent their frustrations at the the lack of communication from the rail service.
There were earlier complaints of no air-conditioning on carriages, the food cart running out of food, and the 'contact driver' button not working on some trains.
Erin McEnery said that she missed the boat to the Aran Islands with her family and now had nowhere to stay for the night:
Worst customer service ever from @IrishRail... absolutely disgraceful. 2 & a 1/2 hour delay. Shocking lack of communication. Only moving now— Coco (@Coquito_Loquito) August 1, 2015
“I’m stuck on the train with my family for the last 3 hours we have missed our bus and boat to the Aran islands.
“We also have a baby and we cannot get food or drink and we had to find accommodation but we cannot find any cause of the races,” she wrote on Twitter.
One man said that he had left Dublin at 1pm and had not made it to Laois by 5pm:
“Thank you for the quick replies. Hard to believe leaving Dublin at 1 and not even in Laois yet," he wrote to the official Irish Rail Twitter account.
Another user, Grace Dyas, said that she expected a full reimbursement for the ticket and the cost of accommodation in Galway:
“I trust we are getting full refund for this journey & reimbursement for accom tonight in Galway [sic],” she said.
Irish Rail has apologised for the delays and has promised passengers who experienced serious delays a full refund.
