Tragic boy dreamed of new pony

Conor Cullen

A SEVEN-year-old boy killed in a road collision could not wait for the summer holidays to begin so he could play with his new pony, his funeral was told yesterday.

Tom Connors died tragically last Friday, which was the first day of his summer holidays.

Tom, the beloved eldest son of Martin and Lizzie, had just finished first class in St Aidan's NS, Clonroche, Co Wexford, and was looking forward to a summer of fun with his little brothers John (6) and Andy (3) and a pony his parents had given him.

He died after a collision involving an SUV, which happened at 10.45am on the Main Street in the village.

The SUV was being driven by a local man, who remained at the scene. Tom was rushed to Wexford General Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Paddy Connors, speaking on behalf of the family, said yesterday that Martin and Lizzie are "devastated" by the loss of their beloved son, who was "full of life".

Mr Connors said when the collision happened last Friday, Tom had "a euro in his hand" and had told his brother John he'd go across to the shop and get something for them both.
