Tragedy as girl (17) dies after attending Kodaline Marlay Park gig
A 17-year-old girl tragically died after enjoying Kodaline's concert in Marlay Park on Friday with friends.
The young girl is from Co Kilkenny.
Medical staff on site assisted the teenager and she was rushed to Tallaght Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Gardai told Independent.ie the sudden death is not being treated as suspicious as it is understood the young girl had underlying health issues.
Kodaline took to Facebook to express their sadness at the death of the young girl following their gig.
"We were shocked and devastated to be informed yesterday that despite the best efforts of all medical teams, she passed away in hospital.
"Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased and we wish to extend our condolences on behalf of us and all of our crew!"
Concert promoters MCD Promotions have expressed their sympathy to the family and friends of the girl.
They said in a statement: “Kodaline and MCD’s immediate thoughts are with the family, relatives and friends of the deceased at their very sad loss.
“During the Kodaline concert at Marlay Park a 17-year-old girl with a pre-existing medical condition became ill.
“The on-site medical team of doctors and paramedics immediately treated the young lady who was transferred to hospital by one of the on site ambulances.
"Despite the best efforts of all medical teams, the young lady passed away in hospital.”
Almost 40,000 people attended the Kodaline concert on Friday July 8.
