A MARRIED couple were killed and their adult son seriously injured in a two-car crash in Co Tipperary.

The crash happened at Grange, outside Nenagh, on the N52 road to Borrisokane at 5.20pm yesterday.

The couple, aged in their 60s, who are from the Nenagh area, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their son, aged in his 20s, was a backseat passenger, and he was taken to the Midwest Regional Hospital in Limerick.

The driver of the other car, a woman in her 30s, was uninjured.

The road was closed for an examination by garda forensic collision investigators. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Nenagh garda station on 067 50450, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

Meanwhile, gardai are also appealing for witnesses following a road traffic accident in which a 47-year-old man died.

The single-vehicle crash took place on the M7 at Ballymacken, Portlaoise, Co Laois, at 9.55pm on Thursday.

It occurred on the southbound lane, between junction 16 and 17, and involved a silver Volvo S40 saloon with registration plate '01 D'.

"Witnesses that may have been travelling on the M7 southbound near these junctions around the time of the collision are asked to contact Portlaoise garda station," a garda spokesman said.

The driver was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise, where a post-mortem examination took place yesterday.

The dead man was alone in the car and there was no other vehicle involved in the crash.
