Town loses 21 more jobs as food plant shuts

A TOWN that has been described as "haemorrhaging jobs" received another blow yesterday with the closure of a food company and the loss of 21 jobs, writes Anita Guidera.

Workers at BWG Foods in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, were told yesterday afternoon that the plant was to shut with all but three of the 24 jobs to go.

The company, which is the parent company for Spar, and operates a chain of Cash and Carries and a food service, is to transfer its Donegal activities to its base in Walkinstown. Talks between employees and their union representatives got underway yesterday.
