Top security role for former CAB boss

THE former head of the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) is to take over the gardai's crime and security branch, writes Tom Brady.
Assistant Commissioner John O'Mahony's first major task will be to take control of the security operations for the forthcoming visists of Queen Elizabeth and US President Barack Obama.
He takes up the post today after being transferred from Galway, where he has been in charge of the western region.
The move is part of the first reshuffle of senior officers by Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan since he took command of the force at the start of the year.
New regional commander in the west is Assistant Commissioner Jack Nolan. He is a former head of the Garda College.
Also promoted was Chief Supt Dave Dowling, moving from Blanchardstown to head the Dublin east division in Dun Laoghaire.
