Celebrity chef Clodagh McKenna is hoping to empower communities in Haiti when she visits next week and expects to come back with some new recipes too.

McKenna will fly to the Caribbean island on Sunday in aid of the Haven NGO.

Leading a group of Irish business people and entrepreneurs, Clodagh hopes it will be the first of many trips she makes to Haiti with Haven.

"Maybe it will be something I can do every year, which would be really lovely to do," Clodagh said.

"I've been told it's such a beautiful country and I'm hoping to bring back lots of lovely recipes."

Since 2008, the Irish NGO has helped Haitians rebuild their lives and create sustainable livelihoods - training more than 78,000 people to do so.

Founder, Leslie Buckley said the top chef's presence can make a difference.

"It is this type of approach that will make a genuine and lasting difference to the future of Haiti," he said.
