A THREE-year-old boy found walking alone in a town was returned home to his parents by gardai.

The little boy was found out wandering on his own on the Ballybunion Road in Listowel, Co Kerry on Wednesday evening.

A member of the public who found the child notified the gardai who have now alerted the Health Service Executive (HSE) about the incident.

It is understood that the child had not been reported missing prior to his discovery on the busy road.

With help from local people, gardai were able to locate the child’s family and return him into their care because they did not believe he was at any immediate risk.

It is understood the child had wandered out of the house unnoticed.

The matter has now been referred to the HSE’s social work department, which is expected to follow up on the incident.
