Saturday afternoon: Members of the Gilligan family celebrate a christening in the Silver Granite pub in Palmerstown.

6.30pm: John Gilligan is driven by his daughter Treacy from Jessbrook on the Meath-Kildare border to his brother Thomas's home in Clondalkin.

7pm: Two gunmen burst into the house in Greenfort Crescent and chase John Gilligan through the house. They fire six shots, hitting the gangster in the stomach, hip and leg. The men escape in a silver SUV. Emergency services are immediately called.

7.36pm: Gilligan arrives at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown by ambulance. Hospital chaplain Fr Dan Joe O'Mahony administered the last rites before Gilligan undergoes surgery.

Sunday: As a full garda investigation swings into action, members of the Gilligan family, including his wife Geraldine, visit him in hospital. John Gilligan is now in a stable condition and expected to recover from his injuries.
