Three quizzed over castle blaze
GARDAI in Co Monaghan have questioned three young men in connection with a fire which destroyed the 17th century Hope Castle on the outskirts of Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, early on Thursday.
Fire units from Castleblayney, Carrickmacross, Monaghan, and Dundalk were called to battle with the blaze which was detected in the early hours of the morning.
The castle, owned by Monaghan County Council, operated as a hotel and bar until a lease expired earlier this year. It has been unoccupied since.
