Three more men arrested as part of garda blitz on organised burglary gangs

THREE more men have been arrested under Operation Thor, the €5m garda operation targeting burglary gangs.

Today's arrests were made in the eastern region of the country.

A 40-year-old man is currently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station in relation to an armed robbery on a shop in Dunboyne on 15th October.

Two men entered the shop, threatened staff and left the scene with a sum of money. The matter is under investigation.

A second man in his late 30s is currently detained in Mullingar Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act for a number of offences that occured yesterday.

He was arrested in relation to a number of offences, including the robbery of a taxi man, the robbery of a pharmacy, the attempted hijack of a car and the robbery of a woman's hangbag. All incidents occured in the Mulligar area.

The third arrest is related to an incident that occured in Birr yesterday when a man in his late 30s allegedly stole a handbag and keys of a car.

The car involved was later crashed and the man was arrested at the scene.

He is currently detained at Birr Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
