Three killed in weekend crashes

THREE people died in separate road crashes over the weekend.

A 63-year-old man died after he was hit by a car at Elphin in Co Roscommon early yesterday. The accident happened shortly after 3.30am at Springfield, Elphin, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

A motorcyclist in his 40s was fatally injured when his motorcycle was in collision with a car.

The collision happened at Knocktopher, Ballyhale, Co Kilkenny, yesterday afternoon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post-mortem examination will be carried out today.

And a 73-year-old woman died in Ardee, Co Louth, after the car she was driving collided with another car at 11.40pm on Saturday.

The driver of the other car was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda with minor injuries.
