Three held after raiders go on rural crime spree

Anita Guidera

GARDAI were questioning three men yesterday following a spate of overnight crime in a rural town which left cars burned out and three businesses ram raided.

One of the busiest nights ever for gardai in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, began after midnight yesterday morning when two cars were set alight. Later, an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal another car.

Raiders, meanwhile, burgled a wine shop while three separate business premises -- including a shopping centre, hearing aid clinic and garage -- were ram raided.

Three men aged 20, 21 and 28 were arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning and detained at Letterkenny garda station. Gardai issued an appeal to the public for assistance in tracking down the vehicles involved in the ram raids and other suspects who may have been involved.
