Three gardai attacked in Louth

Three gardai have been attacked in the Termonfeckin area of Co Louth.

The gardai were attacked while trying to execute a drugs warrant at a property.

They arrived at the property at approximately 10am this morning to execute a drugs warrant.

It is understood the man who opened the door had three knives in his hands. The gardai suffered superficial wounds.

A pitbull dog was also set upon them.

The three gardai were treated at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda. They received tetanus shots as part of their treatment.

They have since been discharged from hospital.

A garda spokesperson told Independent.ie a man in his thirties has been arrested following the altercation.

"The officers were carrying out a drugs search warrant when a fight broke out between the three Gardai and the man," he said,

"The house has been sealed off pending an technical examination. The gardai were treated for minor injuries."

The man is being held in Drogheda Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
