Gardai have arrested three fans following confrontations between rival supporters prior to a Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers match.

The "minor public order” incident occurred last night on Dorset Street in Dublin.

The three men were detained at Mountjoy Garda Station after the incident which occurred at around 7pm.

It is understood that a business sustained damage to a window.

A garda spokesman said that the incident was contained very quickly.

Eye-witnesses said the trouble consisted of clashes between followers of Bohemians FC and Shamrock Rovers who met in a derby at Dalymount Park last night.

Prior to kick-off, a group of up to 70 men clashed briefly in the vicinity of a hotel on the busy street before gardai arrived and broke up the confrontation.

Elderly people living in the vicinity of the confrontation said they were worried that their homes would be damaged in the melee.
