Thousands apply for just 440 CSO part-time posts
THE Central Statistics Office (CSO) had by last night received over 5,000 job applications after it advertised for just 440 part-time posts.
Last week, in preparation for the next census of population, which will be taken in April, the CSO launched a campaign to recruit the field supervisors.
Their part-time job will be to oversee the successful delivery and collection of census forms to every household in the country.
By the close of the online application deadline last night, the office had received more than 5,000 applications for the €500-a-week jobs, which carry a six-month contract and will last from January to mid-June.
With more than 450,000 people on the live register, interest in the part-time posts surpassed the last recruitment drive for field supervisors in 2006 when 1,500 fewer people applied.
But the CSO expects an even bigger number to show an interest when it looks to fill another 5,000 part-time posts in December.
The office will be looking to recruit census enumerators to deliver and collect completed census forms.
