WITH his head bowed and hands joined, you could be forgiven for thinking Social Protection Minister Eamon O Cuiv was praying for some sort of miracle.

But even one of Brian Cowen's most loyal supporters in cabinet appears to have given up hope of a revival after a traumatic 48 hours for Fianna Fail.

The grandson of Eamon de Valera was clearly feeling the strain of the political upheaval of recent days as he was approached by journalists during a round of engagements in Galway yesterday.

Did he still have confidence in Mr Cowen as Fianna Fail leader?

"I have no comment," was all Mr O Cuiv had to say, before leaving abruptly.

Earlier yesterday, Mr O Cuiv declined an invitation to be interviewed on the 'Adhmhaidin' morning current affairs programme on Raidio na Gaeltachta, on which he has been a regular contributor.
